Talasea - Aircraft Wrecks

Three wrecked aircraft from WWII reside on the old pre-war
emergency airstrip at Talasea, New Britain PNG.

B25 - Mitchell Bomber  (US Fifth Airforce)
Lockheed Orion Bomber (RNZAirForce)
Zeke/Zero (carrier based - unknown details, IJN)

The US B25 crew escaped to US forces who at the time of their forced landing were occupying the Talasea area.

The fate of the New Zealand crew is unknown, presumed executed by the Japanese who occupied the Talasea area at the time of the forced landing.

The US & NZ aircraft both made forced landings on Talasea Government Station pre-War emergency landing ground after sustaining engine damage during bombing raids over Rabaul.
